Mr. Montague was a part of the establishment and operation a large surveying, real estate, and insurance company, the La Crosse Marble and Granite Works, the La Crosse Cracker and Candy Company the Brush Electric Light and Power Company, the La Crosse Carriage Company, and The La Crosse Knitting Works. Mr. Montague established the La Crosse Cracker and Candy Company at 417 3rd Street N. in the 1880's but eventually sold it to the National Biscuit Company in 1895.
