Notes Wilson Colwell (1827-1862), who was a banker and investor in La Crosse. At the beginning of the Civil War he was the mayor of the city, but as commander of the Light Guard (company B, 2nd. Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment), he led his men to war in 1861. Captain Colwell was killed in battle in 1862 at the Battle of South Mountain.

The second picture is of a GAR meeting and this portrait of Wilson Colwell can be seen in the background.
