Object Name Suit, Sailor

Description WWI white sailor suit from the U.S. Navy (also known as an Underdress White Service Uniform or "work whites"). Jumper is an off-white/ivory color, has one left breast pocket, has a v-neck with a strap below to hold a neck scarf, and has a sailor's collar that hangs down the back. The area where the neck tag should be has the initials "DAB" printed. The bottom of the jumper on the inside also has the name "D. A. Bensend" stamped on it.

Provenance This uniform was worn by Dewey A. Bensend of Whitehall, Wisconsin. He was a veteran of WWI. He was born in 1898 and died in 1986. His occupation was an electrical contractor.
