Kermit Brekke was born to Sibyl Strum Brekke and Ole Brekke on May 5, 1919. As part of a farming family, Kermit's education ended at sixth grade, and he farmed until joining the U.S. Army during WWII. He served in northern Africa and in the Italian campaign. On April 25, 1943, he married Evelyn Myrtle Stutlien in Medford, Oregon. The pair returned to farming after the war, with Kermit also doing electrical construction work prior to retirement. He was active in the First Lutheran Church, the Sons of Norway, and American Legion Post 231, and both he and his wife volunteered as drivers for Trempealeau County for several years. Kermit passed away on July 21, 2005. He and his wife were both buried in the Zion Lutheran Church in Blair, WI. |

Fringe on three sides made of gold metal twisted braid. Fourth side had five pair of ribbon ties, each 7 inches long. Three panels of sild (green, white, and red) with center oval medallion depicting map of Italy with letters CCSF. Above the oval are workds:"Sindacato Fascista; Operai Soc:An:Materiali Refrattari Livorno" written in twisted gold metallic braid, similar to fringe. Fabric is taffeta on white warp.

Hand-warmer pockets and two hip pockets. Four brown plastic buttons on each side, with one missing on one side. Loop closures. Closure appears to be reversible. Pockets are reinforced at corners with large leather-like triangles. One belt loop, broken.
