Rolf Steen Rynning was born to Erik Bech and Cathinka Steen Rynning on January 25, 1888. His father helped found the Normanna Sangerkor, or the Norwegian Men's Singing Corps, and Rolf was a part of the group as well. During WWI, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and eventually obtained the rank of sergeant. On November 16, 1917, he married Sadie Helma Rue, and they eventually had six children: Helen Elisabeth, Roald Mentz, Jeannette Edith, Solveig Dorothy, Joel Erik, and Esther Louise. He wrote several entries in books of historical sketches, such as the La Crosse County Historical Sketches, Series 8. He recorded oral histories with the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse's Oral History Program. He worked as an accountant for much of his life. Rofl died in La Crosse on January 2, 1988. |
