(His birth and death certificates list his name as "Emil Rasmussen" and everyone called him "Emil." He signed all of his documents as "F. E. Rasmussen.") Emil's grandparents arrived from Denmark and settled in Cedar Falls/Waterloo area of Iowa. His father, Albert and uncle, Emil, started the La Crosse Foundry which went bankrupt. Frederik grew up on the north side of La Crosse on Rose Street, the youngest of three brothers. He played trumpet in the Logan High School band. He did not serve in the military during WWII because he was 4F (physically unfit). Instead, he worked at Camp McCoy during the war. After marrying Marge (1945), they moved to Wyoming for college. He worked as a mechanical engineer for severl companies including Greyhound Post House, Green Giant, and Lamb-Weston. He enjoyed traveling and visitred almost all South Dakota state, Canada, & Mexico. After the death of Marge in 1996 he moved to Molalla, Oregon.
