Provenance |
Captain Daniel Webster was captain of the 1st Battery of the 1st Regiment Heavy Artillery. The shoulder bar is scarlet, indicating artillery, with a gold border and gold captain's bars. As it has gold thread in the embroidering, it is likely from Capt. Webster's dress blouse. The 1st Battery was mustered in La Crosse on October 10, 1861. It participated in four engagements: The battles of Port Gibson, Champion Hill, Siege of Jackson, and the Red River Campaign. |
