    Cadwallader Colden Washburn's Civil War field desk. There are three metal brackets on each corner with dovetail corners and two iron strap hinges and a hasp. Pigeon holes inside-one larger file holder on top, eight divided compartments below. Two handles-one on each side. Black text on the front reads "Maj. Genl. C. C. Washburn" and the line below "U.S. Vols." Decorative swashes around text.

    44 star American flag from the Brownsville Minnesota chapter of the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Post 187. Flag is pieced wool, machine-stitched with appliquéd cotton stars and bears remnants of gold fringe. Stamped on the stripes of the flag: "A. L. DARLING POST NO. 187 BROWNSVILLE, MINN.

  9. Horn, Powder - 1989.010.01

    Powder horn, made of a cow's horn that has been flattened. Wide end is sealed with a wooden plug nailed in place, Small end is fitted with an iron cap that has been fabricated by hand with horizontal bands for decoration and the tip of the spring that holds the opening closed has a tiny star stamped into it.

    Captain Wilson Colwell's sword. Model 1850 Foot Officer's Sword manufactured by the Ames Manufacturing Company of Chicopee, Massachusetts. The field of the blade is decorated in ornate floral and military etchings including a Federal eagle, and the initials "U.S." The blade is marked: "AMES MFG. CO./ CHICOPEE/ MASS." The grip is wood covered with leather and wrapped with twisted brass wire. There is a Phrygian helmet pommel and a rounded, D-shape...

    Civil War era Navy enlistedmen's shirt, or tunic. Pull over navy blue wool top. Both machine and hand sewn. Metal buttons painted black on cuffs. Black knotted silk ribbon around collar. Laced-up front of collar. Collar flap has two hand sewn yellow stars on the corners; one on each. There is a hand sewn eagle on the left shoulder. Part of a full uniform.

    Civil War era Navy enlistedmen's bell-bottom pants. Navy blue cotton and wool with a twelve button fall front. The buttons are most likely made of gutta percha and some are black and some tan. The back of the pants is laced up with black silk ribbon. Part of a full uniform.
